SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability
At Covalent Lithium, care is embedded in every aspect of our operations. From our employee culture to the construction of our refinery in the Kwinana Industrial Area, we are committed to fostering sustainability, minimising our environmental impact, and preserving the natural ecosystems surrounding our projects.
Environmental Sustainability
The Mount Holland mine site, located within the Great Western Woodlands Ironcap Hills Vegetation Complexes, is a Priority 3 Ecological Community. Approximately 5 kilometres south of the Jilbaldji Nature Reserve, this area is home to rare flora and fauna species, including banksia, microcorys, and local acacia species. It also provides habitat to conservation-significant fauna species such as malleefowl and chuditch.
When developing the site, we took proactive steps to safeguard this local flora and fauna. Collaborating with specialists, we identified habitats, relocated species as required, and erected protective fencing to prevent disruptions. Our team prioritised education, awareness, and monitoring efforts to mitigate our environmental impact and ensure the ecosystem's sustainability.
The mine site also underwent rigorous environmental assessments by both the WA Environmental Protection Authority and the Commonwealth Department of Energy and Environment. These assessments ensured that our operations comply with environmental regulations and mitigated any potential impacts on the surrounding ecosystems.
Our refinery in the Kwinana Industrial Area is under construction on a cleared site located 35 kilometres south of Perth. Once operational, the refinery will receive materials produced at the Mt Holland concentrator. We are in the process of seeking environmental approvals for the proposed refinery, demonstrating our commitment to responsible and sustainable development.
The Covalent Lithium Environment Policy outlines our Statement of Commitment to the environment.
